Bridging Theory and Practice: Social Work Students from Kerala Explore Kullu’s Aash Bal Vikas Kendra

A Journey of Empathy and Education: MSW Students from Naipunnya Institute, Thrissur, Visit Himachal Pradesh to Gain Hands-On Insights into Disability and Rehabilitation.

 

 

A group of postgraduate Master of Social Work (MSW) students from the Naipunnya Institute of Management and Information Technology (NIMIT), Thrissur, Kerala, is currently on an educational tour to Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. As part of their academic itinerary, the student delegation visited the Aash Bal Vikas Kendra run by the Sanfiya Foundation on Tuesday, aimed at gaining practical, ground-level exposure to the fields of disability support and social rehabilitation.

The delegation visited the center under the leadership of Dr. Shiju, Head of the Department of Social Work at the institute.

Key Highlights of the Interaction:

Overview of Community Initiatives: Program Manager Biju Himadal briefed the students on the pioneering work undertaken by the Sanfiya Foundation in the domains of disability care and social inclusion. He elaborated on the essential services provided to specially-abled children and their families, focusing on early identification, structured rehabilitation, and community-level integration efforts.

Bridging Academia and Reality: Foundation Director Dr. Drishthi More Bhardwaj emphasized that such academic field visits play a vital role in shaping competent social workers. They provide students with invaluable opportunities to connect theoretical classroom knowledge with real-world socio-economic scenarios, enhancing their understanding of grassroots challenges.

Interactive Learning: The visit concluded with an engaging discussion session where students interacted with the administrative staff and field workers, gaining deeper insights into intervention strategies and developmental support systems for vulnerable communities.
